Budget Travel was founded in 1998 by travel icon Arthur Frommer, and purchased by Newsweek in 2000. The magazine's mission is to get readers the best experience at the lowest price, giving them the smart information and practical tools they need to make every trip as good as it can be. The philosophy is summed up in four words on the cover: Vacations for Real People. Budget Travel publishes 10 issues a year, with a circulation of 600,000.

 

 

Erik Torkells is Editor in Chief of Budget Travel magazine and BudgetTravel.com, as well as a new magazine, Girlfriend Getaways. He’s the coauthor of three Budget Travel books: The Smart Traveler's Passport: 399 Tips from Seasoned Travelers; Secret Hotels: Extraordinary Values in the World's Most Stunning Destinations; and A Stingray Bit My Nipple!
